The BSP supports schools in a number of ways. We offer schools and teachers of science many benefits through our programs. And our programs for students connect kids with the university resources in our community. Benefits to schools of teacher participation Increased teacher leadership capacity. Increased teacher content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge. Support for teachers obtaining science licensure. Vertical Planning workshops where teachers learn to draw on past and predict future science experiences in order to increase rigor and student achievement. Research on student motivation to continue in the sciences with reports for each school. School-based professional development, CCLS , supported by the BPS science specialists and tailored to the needs of the science teachers. Strong community of teachers to support each other, improve each other’s teaching practices, and teachers who can competently lead school-based professional developments. Teachers who communicate with each other know their students and families better, which can lead to increased student achievement and less behavioral problems.
