Course Audience: The course will be targeted towards grade 3-8 teachers of science, although teachers of other grades are welcome to attend.
Course Description:
This course is designed to use environmental sciences as an integrating context for teachers of middle school science. Field experiences in and activities drawn from the Neponset River Watershed will enhance the teaching of middle school earth science, life science, and physical science curricula. A conceptual framework for environmental sciences will connect field experiences to Massachusetts state curriculum frameworks.
Course Number: EEOS 525 (Please note that this course is not eligible to be transferred in to the M.Ed. Middle School Science degree at Northeastern University.)

Dates: August 18, 19, 20, 23, 24. Plus callback on Saturday, December 4, 2010
Times: Approximately 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM each day depending on tides. Exact schedule to be announced.

Course Tuition Payment/Graduate Credit:
The University of Massachusetts-Boston will grant 3 semester hours of graduate credit for satisfactory completion of this course.  Tuition for this course will be $305 and will be billed to teachers directly by the university after the start of the course.

Attendance Policy:
In order to receive graduate credit for this course, participants may not miss in excess of 8 instructional hours over the duration of the course.  Any hours missed up until this point must be cleared with the instructional team, and alternative arrangements must be made to make up the work if necessary.
